We took this on our trip and it went with us throughout our travels in Lisbon. We had a breakdown by area and the times that places opened, metro stops and the notes about the areas as well as wonderful, colorful pictures made this a perfect companion for our 10 day stay. Overall, I would definitely recommend and would seek out more of their guides in the future.

A very interesting book about the White House with all their history from begining to nowadays, and the residing presidents.It shows us all the rooms and residents, some of them couldn't never having a look inside, if you visited Washington DC.Lavish provided with color photographs an drawings. A topper, and a good quality of binding

I have a small collection of books about the White House and this is a nice addition to it. The National Geographic Society lends itself well to this project with their exceptional photos and graphics. A topic as big as this building can't be handled in detail in just one volume, but for those who love the architecture and history of the building and its residents this is a good beginning.

Lots of photos, good stories. Note the size, 9.6 x 1.1 x 11.2 inches, which makes it one the smaller end of the coffee table book range. Make sure your bookcase will take it!

Nice book, laid out well for the White House, civics enthusiast. Plenty of gorgeous pictures and historical anecdotes. My mother loved it!

A thick book about Maxwell's 21 laws of leadership. Well-written and informative, this is an update of the 1998 best-selling book.Expect to spend a few hours with this volume. Absorb that which is useful to you. If your are already a leader, this book will help you to be a better one. There is a lot here for every level of leadership.These laws are broad enough for application to any industry or government section. Millions of people have applied them to their personal lives, such as in marriage.This is an epic self help manual and I am glad for you. You're taking a major step towards improving your value to society. Read, enjoy, and lead on.

I agree with almost all of the other criticisms of this book posted here. This book is a waste of money. If you remove the lengthy "inspirational" stories from the book, very little remains. Many of the stories don't exactly fit to either illustrate or prove his point. For example, just look at how forced his example is on pages 96-97. For another example, he distinguishes leadership from management, but then proceeds in chapter 17 to illustrate one of his so-called "laws" using an example of management. He constantly confuses management with leadership. In fact, most of what he talks about is management.In several places he defines leadership as "...influence. Nothing more and nothing less", but then he goes on to add to the definition of leadership as he proceeds through the book. If leadership is merely influence, as he so insists, then Hitler and Jim Jones were great leaders. Is being a top used car salesman mean one is a great leader? I mean, that is influence is it not?Maxwell also talks way too much about himself and what he has done. The constant self-referencing throughout the book is sickening. He ends his book talking about (again) his accomplishments and his EQUIP organization. As others have noted here, the book leads up to selling his other books/conferences. This book gives me the impression that Maxwell is not a leader, per se, but a salesman--nothing more and nothing less. The key skill of the salesman/woman is influence. Leadership is, essentially, about where to go (mission, vision) and management is about how to get there. Most of what he talks about is organizational management and project management (See PMI). But even then, he does a poor job of it. There is very little substance to what he has to say. Anyone who has been in a leadership and/or management role for any length of time will immediately see the problems with this book.There are other things wrong with this book, but it is not worth any more time pointing them out, particularly since others have already done this (e.g. inaccurate stories, etc.).(Nothing personal Mr. Maxwell. It is just a poor book)

If I only knew these laws years ago, I know I could have increased my leadership skills 50%. The book is a must for those people who have areas of responsibility that impact others. If you want to make a difference in your life and those around them, this book should be required reading.

I picked up this book for the first time in 2001 and it instantly became one of my go to reference for developing new and current leaders around me. Maxwell's combination of down to earth leadership principles, combined with relevant examples and his experience in multiple organizations, makes this book an authority on the subject. This revised addition keeps true to the original, with updates to some keys concepts to bring it into alignment with new leadership concepts in today's environment. If you are struggling to understand how to lead, how to develop others around you into better leaders, or just need a refresher on key concepts, this book is for you!

Most leadership books I've found to have nothing useful and are just common knowledge, taken from other writers, seem like the writer has never actually led or managed anyone, or are just complete idiot bunk trying to make the work force a happy place where nothing seems to get done anymore as we're supposed to be everyone's friend. This book is the absolute exception. I received more quality leadership information from this book than every other leadership/management book I've ever read put together. If you'd like to learn how to become a better leader, forget the rest, read this book!

About the Author

Donald Goines was born in Detroit, Michigan. He joined the U.S. Air Force instead of going into his family’s dry cleaning business. This was really a great book. It keeps your attention this book was about a prostitute that had a son and she named him "Whoreson". He grows up knowing his mother profession. His mother got sick and he had to do what he had to do to help his mother. As he got older he wanted to be a pimp and that's just what he did, at the age of 16. He was mean. It also shows as he got older how his life was and how he use women to get what he wanted. If you haven't read this book please do you will really enjoy it.Sistahs on Lit

This is probably one of my most favorite books of all time (close tie with Black Girl Lost). I am a big Goines fan but this book has always stuck with me. I've had to reorder it repeatedly because it gets stolen. You will not be disappointed. I read the book when I was younger in one sitting. It really holds your attention. The characters are so real...you'll swear you know them.

I chose this book because a friend of mine recommended it to me. This was my first book by Donald Goines and I read it all in one day!!!!!!I opened this book and was sucked into the world of Whoreson,the half-white child of a prostitute. His story of the things that happened to him as he grew into a young pimp will be sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. His picture is vivid as you are taken on a journey through the poverty-stricken streets of the ghetto. I do not want to tell you the story and spoil it for you but I will say this: I GUARANTEE that you will enjoy this book and you will not want it to END. Do yourself a favor and purchase this book.

Donald Goines has both a natural talent as a writer and ghetto sage who somehow found a way to transfer all of the suffering he's experienced into a classic among its genre. Ghetto life is vividly muraled from front to back with true ghetto imagery, never letting up on keepin' you wise on how pimps do. If you are interested in ghetto life the book will take you on a tale to real to be just a novel. The seed of a prostitute and son of a 'john' Whoreson embarks on quest to become the man his mother destined him to be.

Man this is my third Donald Goines book and it blew my mind! at first I thought it would be similar to the book I read previously "street players" though it had a few similarities this book gives the indepth look on Whoreson and his life and I really enjoyed that. this book takes you from his birth to his rise and fall. someone made a comment on this site that Ruby was down for him, but I feel that Janet was down with him from the get go. Without me talkin 2 much I suggest yall get this book 4 sure!!!!

THIS BOOK WAS FANTASTIC!!!! I HAVE NEVER, AND I REPEAT NEVER READ A BOOK SO RAW AND VIVID THAT IT ACTUALLY MAKES YOU WISH YOU WERE A FLY ON THE WALL DURING THOSE TIMES. WHORESON IS AN EXTREMELY GOOD BOOK, THAT GIVES YOU INSIGHT TO THE LIFE AND TIMES OF A YOUNG PIMP/HUSTLER. IT LEAVES NOTHING TO THE IMAGINATION, AND IT BRINGS YOU ALONG FOR THE RIDE. After becoming interested in the tuning process for my 2006 Subaru WRX I ran into this book and after looking at the reviews decided it would be a good start.After reading it all the way through I can say that it was a perfect fit for where I was at knowledge wise. I'd say this is a good fit for someone that already works on cars and has a solid understanding of the basics of how a gasoline engine works and what the basics components in the engine bay are.When you want to go past the basics and learn what's really making the efi system work this will explain in detail each part of tuning an engine. It covers engine ecu inputs and outputs, sensors, how they work, and the part each plays in the tuning process as well as the steps you take when the car is on the Dyno to start developing an accurate model of engine airflow and fuel flow to make everything run right.I'll say that I did get lost during a few more technical parts of the book but I probably understood about 80-90% of what was touched on and I think that is a real success. With some work memorizing some important terms and perhaps another read through or two of the more complex parts I'll have a solid understanding of the basics.For someone looking at this book with a background in Subarus I can say that the book offers several pictures of and references to the WRX STI and for the year the book was released all the info is relevant for your GD and GR model year Subaru's using the USDA EJ20 and 25 engines. I really would have liked to see a specific example of the approach to tuning a Subaru or really anly import in general but unfortunately the only examples in the book are for Ford and GM vehicles. Less time spent on carborator and distributor discusion and function would he appreciated in an updated version as well sense they are not involved in an EFI system and don't help to teach EFI concepts except for maybe a very brief overview of their purpose compared to current day technologies. Non the less, the info contained was very useful to me and with more reading and some hands on practice I think this books will get a beginner well on their way to understanding efi and getting started with some basic tuning.

I am looking into installing a stand-alone engine management (megasquirt) in my vehicle and decided I needed a more "put together" source of information regarding how an engine operates and how to best tune for all running conditions.I really liked how this book is organized and illustrated. Broken up into logical chapters that are easily understood.After reading the book cover-to-cover I can say that I have learned all I need to get started with my adventures in engine tuning.While this book is not going to give you any hand outs, it will teach you the basics and their effects on an engine.

Very generic More about concepts and some of the technology than actual tuning how to information. EFI live and the Tuning School has actual how n why tuning instruction that I consider actual advanced tuning. I felt the author was just trying to impress you with his knowledge than giving any instruction.

Lots of useful information for making an EFI fueled engine. Unfortunately assumes the builder has access to a chassis dyno for calibration. In my area the minimum charge for a chassis dyno session is as much as my engine and transmission together. Really needs to outline a less expensive calibration regimen instead of the chassis dyno.

This is one of the best automotive performance books I've read. Very thorough. He goes deep into the physics and science of engine operation and controls, and explains it so you don't need a degree in mechanical or electrical engineering to understand it. That's different than many similar books which are light on explaining the basics, and too heavy on sample aftermarket packages.

This is the best book (so far!) that I've read on the explanations of how the modern engines are controlled by their on-board "computer," the ECU. Explains what "Maps" are and how they affect EVERYTHING in your car engine!

Great read, but sometimes it is hard to follow. Not from a technical perspective, but the authors writing style is all over the place at time.

This book does a great job of describing how engine computers do their job, giving you a good basis to start learning to tune. Some books/courses are just a list of steps to take, and when you're done you really don't have a good idea what you did, but it hopefully works well enough. This book is a nice addition to fill in the "why" and "how" questions so you can understand much better what you're doing, why you're doing it, and how it works.
