I wasn't sure what to expect from Melissa Radke's first book. Sure, I figured there would be some laughs. Melissa's videos led me to expect that. I also thought there'd be a healthy dose of encouragement. And, of course, she'd talk about Jesus. But what surprised me was the range of reactions elicited by her words. I laughed, cried, nodded my head and said, "Preach," identified with her on multiple levels, and had several moments of self-examination and introspection. This isn't your typical "Christian woman's book." Melissa is unflinchingly honest and candid about her life and her experiences. It seems many popular female Christian authors come off as untouchable, almost perfect. Melissa doesn't even pretend to try to fool us into buying that. She is refreshingly honest, sometimes irreverently so, but that just serves to make you love her more. This is no feel-good, platitude-filled, "Love Jesus and you'll live your best life" book. But she reminds us of our worth, that we were created for abundant life and that it won't just fall into our laps, that we have some heart work to do. And she makes it seem not impossible. She talks to us as if we've always been friends. You'll want to reread it so you don't miss out on her nuggets of wisdom (and to relive some of her funnier moments).

In fact, HOPE is the common thread running throughout the entire book. The way in which Melissa has overcome adversity and used it for good is evident on every page. This perspective has inspired me to look at my circumstances differently, and to believe that hard times don't have to define me. Melissa has a way with words that encourages me to live bravely and to not shy away from things out of my comfort zone. I have laughed, cried, and laughed and cried again reading ECBB! This is a must-read for everyone!

I had high hopes for this book but it was disappointing because I was expecting more of a self-help style book but it was a memoir with chapters of the author's life in random order. Melissa Radke is very funny, and has been able to keep her sense of humor through a lot of difficult times, so if you want to read the book for a laugh and to get to know more about her, than you might really enjoy this book. The "advice" in the book could be stated as "Be brave because God made you perfect the way you are". Otherwise, the content was largely the author confessing all the embarrassing things she's done, and partly an indirect promo for what a great singer she is in hopes that a record label signs her. It was much more about her past than steps she took to be more brave after she turned 41, which what I anticipated from the marketing of the book. There were about 3 chapters out of 24 that were helpful. Again, there are funny parts, but not the mid-life inspiration that it's marketed as.

I'm an avid reader and usually finish 1 book per week. However, I instantly fell in love with Melissa's style of writing and felt like she and I were old friends just sitting down for a talk...so I read the book in one evening because I couldn't find a place to stop! Her style is honest. As a woman in my 40's, I can relate to her stories and appreciate the candor with which she discusses some of the obstacles she's faced in her past and those she continues to face at this stage in her life. I found myself laughing out loud in one instance and then crying in the next because her situations matched so many of mine. The advice she gives is "in your face" and she's 100 real. I need her to move to my town and be my new BFF. My only wish is that I would have read this 20 years ago and been able to learn from her lessons then!

I knew I would like this book... because it was real and relatable like Melissa. There were stories I read aloud to my husband and others I wanted to share with my closest friends because I knew they would say Yes! Me too! But then I found out more about her and really wanted to read more! We share a lot of similarities and life experiences and I felt even more connected. I just wanted the book to keep gong! Thank you for a great book and for sharing your heart!

Melissa Radke has knocked it out of the ballpark with her first book. She is so open and candid about her journey to the point in her life when she made the decision to be brave! This book will take you through her real life experiences and so many of them I could relate to! I laughed, sometimes out loud, as she used her wonderful sense of humor to make her point and then then next chapter I was in tears as I felt the pain of her heartbreak and in some instances had been there, done that myself! I walked through her journey and came out on the other side with the new affirmation and determination that I, too, will start to live brave and not hide behind the way others have made me feel through the years. I will live for the One who knew me before I was even formed and I will live blessed beyond measure!!! This is a MUST READ for anyone! Young women just getting out of high school and heading into real life need to read to help them not fall into the trap others sometimes place you in. Older women need to read this to possibly free them from the chains that have bound them for so long because of what someone may have said about them. All women will come away from this changed in some way that is for sure!!! I'm anxious to see what Melissa will write for her next book because this one is going to be hard to beat!

About the Author

Clive Scarff was born in Toronto and developed a love of writing at an early age. His first "screenplay" was produced and aired on the local cable channel when he was 13. At 14 he and his family moved to Melbourne, Australia, and in high school he was the first ever student to write a one-act play for the school's drama festival. From there Clive returned to Toronto to take Radio and TV Arts at Ryerson University, majoring in writing. This led to a first career, in television production, where he wrote for commercials, ethnic programming, a fishing show, Canada's Gemini Awards, and CTV's Winter and Summer Olympic coverage. In 1994 Clive took a chance to test his mettle in the world of golf, and successfully qualified to become a golf professional. His strength lay with teaching, and that teaching combined with his writing history led the creation of "Hit Down Dammit!" - a golf instructional book that explains the workings of the golf swing as it revolves around the physical need to hit down - not up - at a golf ball to make it go up, and straight. The success of Hit Down Dammit! opened a lot of doors; Clive now has a syndicated golf column, a series of instructional DVDs, and two more books on golf. Also completed is a screenplay on golf called "Senior Tour" and the pilot for a golf-themed fantasy/adventure show entitled "Mystic Links". Clive resides in the golf mecca of Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island, in British Columbia, Canada.

This has some great tips for the price of a golf ball. Well worth reading and heeding.

This is outstanding. It cost nine bucks, I read it in 45 minutes, and I picked up four or five interesting tips/perspectives that I hadn't thought of before. You can look at the table of contents and say "ok, I know all that already," but there are some really interesting things he points out just in the intro that had never occurred to me.It's also pretty funny. I thought it would be corny, but he's genuinely funny/irreverent.

Suggested by a friend, this has some practical, down to earth habits to follow to either improve at golf...or at least know why you suck. Most of the ideas I have followed, but there were a few that could be real gems, time will tell, This is a quick, easy read that is somewhat like get razzed by a buddie. Bottomline, you may still suck at golf, but at least you'll have an idea why!

Pretty good informative book! Each chapter goes over a common mistake that golfers make and how to correct it.

Very short book, but filled, cover to cover, with tips so common sense that you've probably forgotten them, if you've ever really thought about them at all. The humor with which it's written makes it a breezy read and, even if you don't magically come away from it with a sub-70 game, you'll definitely come away with some jokes you'll tell your buddies on the course, probably too many times. But hey, it's refreshing to stumble across a book from time to time that reminds us this is something we do for fun.

An easy enjoyable read to remind you of all the "mistakes" one can make on a golf course. I look at this book and think of one word - reminders. Humorous at times and it does make some good points on things to remember about the game - strategy (do you have one?), practice, chipping, etc.

Very funny. Very informative. Very true! I hate to admit that last one but the truth hurts. I reaffirmed some things that I already knew and I learned new things that have helped me embrace my “suckiness” and shaved some strokes off my score. You will still suck at golf after reading this book but you will laugh and take comfort that you are not alone.

Gave this to my dad who golf for Christmas and of course the second he read the title he burst out laughing! I choose this book because it actually kept my attention when I was reading the couple pages displayed to you, my dad read a couple after he opened it and was really enjoying it as well! Definitely recommend.

Some golfers like it, some hate it because of the title. I used this as a white elephant gift for our company Christmas party. We have a lot of golfers in our company and I thought it would be a great gift. I love the title! Turns out the book is supposed to actually help the golfer improve. Win, win.

Chuckles (I do wish the author had chosen another name!) serves on Vector's ship, Reckless, patrolling their sector of space to protect beings from the Humanoid Alliance. Somehow Reckless intercepts a transmission from Bait - a glittery and seductive human female whom Chuckles recognizes instantly - she's HIS female! A joy he never thought to feel sets him on the path to meet and claim her - and punish her for being a deceitful human. He doesn't understand Bait's role - she's a lure to trap intergalactic sexual predators. And Bait doesn't get that Chuckles is a cyborg good guy, not one of her targets. They work out their identities, their relationship, and a way out of a seemingly impossible situation in order to find HEA, but it's a rough, sometimes heartbreaking journey. Four stars for excellent world-building and all the feels. A warning to those who dislike kink - severe dominance and punishment themes. I'm pleased to see author Cynthia Sax's Cyborg universe expanding.

I sorry but this book is basically H and h either having sex, thinking of sex, or the tstl h being spanked (and being turned on). I have to date purchased all of this series but, it seems with each book lately the quality of the story (and the storyline) are lost to constant sex. I feel that this will be the last book I will buy from this author.

I love the cyborgs’ penchant for assigning percentages of probability to nearly everything!Chuckles is not a humorous cyborg like Truth. Grim is more like it; stern is a given. He doesn’t show his affections openly, it’s in the little things he does. Bettina is a playful little being, always testing limits! She’s also loyal, dedicated to making sure her loved ones are safe, and receiving good care. Odd as it may seem, they’re a perfect match. Each provides something that is crucial to the happiness of the other. Reading their story is a pleasure from start to finish.Ms. Sax has the skill to take her readers through the full gamut of emotions: the anger of someone severely wronged, the depths of sorrow when a friend is lost, the elation of love realized. It is difficult to move on from that. The next book I read may not get its due.

I sooooo loved 'Choosing Chuckles'!!! 💖😍💖😍I was both laughing & teary eyed for both Chuckles & Bettina (his bad, bad female), parts of the story broke my heart for Chuckles: how he expected humans to view/treat him, I thought Bettina was so sweet, so loving, so accepting, I adored how COLORFUL her character was & how she wanted to be that way, especially for Chuckles. I loved her father & his caretaker & their sarcastic bickering too.But I found this one grabbed my heart as much as the author's Cyborg story 'Releasing Rage' (my all time fave of the author's cyborg stories & I love them ALL!). I was sucked into Chuckles story so damn much & I felt Bettina was perfect for him & he was perfect for her. (P.S. The sex in the author's books IMO: fine. Quality AND quantity wise!!) Oh, I did also get a LOT of CHUCKLES with Chuckles & Bettina's erotic relationship dynamic 😂😂, I thought it was extremely cute & sexy.So, if you want a romance that grabs your heart & squeezes & satisfies it, that makes you teary eyed AND smile, that makes you chuckle, that has danger & action as well as a cute but sexy erotic dynamic between H/h, I SO RECOMMEND this one. This is a mandatory multiple REREAD for me!!!

I've read all her cyborg books and although this appears to be a new series, I'm glad to see the world expanding. The story ARC is heating up with possibly some new dangers and internal intrigue on the cyborg home world. This author's cyborg books are one click for me and I've loved them all. The spanking is a new thing, but lots of girls like a little hair pulling and sexy spanking. It worked with the story line, so I enjoyed reading it.Highly recommend all the books written in this world!Also, a little shout out to the people complaining about the sex 😱 ...it's call sexy sci-fi for a reason. 😈❤️😍💄💋👄🍌🥒

Oh, the cyborgs. I love Cynthia Sax's cyborgs. I can never, ever get enough of them. This one is the start of a new series within the same 'verse. Our cyborgs are going to be going where no being has ever gone before. Or, something like that.I love Chuckles. I've liked him since we saw him first, even if he wasn't a fan of humans. There's just something about the damaged warrior that was so appealing to me. (Even if he isn't a C Model).Bettina just seems like such a fun and bubbly person, who is actually perfect for Chuckles. I think their dynamic is just what both of them need and such a great way to make everyone happy.I can't wait to see what Cynthia Sax is going to do next with our cyborgs.

This is a great start to a new series by Ms. Sax. I would like to humbly suggest that she might have someone write like a summary or introduction to her Worlds. The reason for this being that I believe she is so intwined with her works that the recognition that readers New to her books might be a BIT lost is, well, lost on her. Haha. But really, I am just continually intrigued, delighted, appreciative of her characters and their worlds (like the Carinae E reference would be lost on new readers) yet a reader first checking out Ms. Sax doesn't know the cyborg history, what the Humanoid Alliance is, about the other aliens, the different cyborg models, home planet, New world, the amazement of them having children, explaining more about the nanocybotics and how they might work, and even how it came to be that cyborgs have come in part to be free. These are details I LOVE and need to make the story glow. It's how I know Chuckles is so damn overwhelmed by Bettina and why his fellow Cyborgs just let him leave to follow the possibility of his female. Ah love.Anyway, this was just fantastical, romantic (the adoring scene is a tear jerker), and yes plenty of lusty times = thank you very much. I will stop myself here. Two thumbs up.

What a fantastic and entertaining series - I just couldn't put this latest book in the series down. It was exciting, dramatic and had several twists that I wasn't excpecting. In Emergence, Lozito starts to unravel some of the mysteries of New Earth and the NEIIS. Emergence picks up a few months after the last book and sees Connor investigating why several NEIIS sites have been disturbed, their stasis-chambers removed as well as investigating who has been spying on him. Meanwhile, Sean is tasked to not only send probes back to Earth to assess whether the Vemus still pose a threat, but also to explore the NEIIS site on Sagan. The action ramps up once Sean and the crew of Vigilant lose contact with New Earth. I know I say this a lot, but I really mean it: I'm looking forward to the next installment with great anticipation :)

The ridiculously abrupt ending put a jarring end to a perfectly good book. In my opinion the way this book was ended ruined the entire build up.-SPOILER-You have 6 enemy ships launch 500 drones to attack one crippled ship that may or may not make it to safety while at the same time the crippled ship is trying to launch one precise orbital strike to potentially save the world.The author just says... oh the enemy ships were destroyed and orbital strike worked... literally sums it up in one sentence and essentially ends the book. Come on that's just lazy writing...I will still grudgingly give three stars only because up until the ending I was digging this book...but expect to be disappointed.

Took some time to get the book because of some unintentional geo restrictions by Amazon - and now that I got it it was finished in no time. Completely unexpected turn of events (no spoilers though) made it even more enjoyable. Let's say this turn if events opens up even more possible / interesting developments in future sequels. The storyline is important and being well written & edited contributes just as much - and in both the book deserves these 5 stars.

Awesomeness is obtained through the judicious application of forethought, planning and violent execution of the resulting COA. I am liking the direction of this series and hope to see something of a hybrid from the mix of Nexstar armor and the MPS system. The use of the nannites here and I think genetics once you link with the NEIIs could fill volumes. Thanks for the GoodRead.

Alright so Connor is back, but who are we kidding, he never left. I tried to read this book slowly so I would not just burn through it, but alas I have failed. This series has had me from book one and I have loved every character and scenario. Ken I don't expect this series to go on forever but I will continue to follow Connor, Noah, Dash and the rest of the new earth family.

Another outstanding installment in this well-conceived sci-fi series! I have been fully invested in these characters from the start and love watching the younger generation mature and step into larger roles. The plot takes some surprising turns and raises many questions about those who inhabited New Earth eons ago as well as the dark forces at work in the Colony. If you are looking for a literate, well-written, thought-provoking sci-if series that offers much more than cool futuristic technology and evil alien monsters, this series is definitely for you.

The threat from old Earth seems to be contained, yet there are new problems... pretty much human mistrust and suspicion. A new threat comes to light concerning the mysterious previous residents of their new home. New answers lead to new problems which must be faced. How did the aliens have settlements around their space without any obvious space technology? NO SPOILERS! Read the book and enjoy...

All the intrigue continue. Connor, Díaz, Dash and Noah continues the investigation started in book 5. Sean takes charge of the Valiant. Everything is difficult and complicated. A new discovery of a NEIIS city under a lake triggers the emergency. Connor, Díaz and a group of scientists disappear and the Valiant idem. What's going to happen now...

I don't know how many years ago I first read Robin William's "A Mac is not a Typewriter." It started me thinking from a designer's point of view. I've read several of her books since and recommend them to my students, this one especially.This book is an excellent introduction to typography, and using typography in design for a beginner and a good refresher for the more experienced. Williams explains technical terms with a lightness and ease I envy. She makes good design concepts seem obvious not obscure or difficult. This is an excellent primer and reading it would benefit countless self-trained desktop publishers.

I have no graphic design background, but have always been interested in pursuing it as a hobby and/or freelance opportunity eventually. This has been an incredible resource for me as a beginner.It has tought me tons about fonts, colors, layout ideas, designing business card and other business forms, and so much more, it'd be impossible to list it all. The way the author lays out the book makes all this new information so easy to comprehend, and that is one of the things I like most about the book.I am always going back to re-read and look at ideas and info when I'm working on designing different things.I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in graphic design.

I learned a lot from this book. I can hardly believe some of the one-star comments: “pretensious and cocky,” "no help,” “written for a 3-year old.” I did not see any of that. If you didn’t attend graphic design school and want to make your designs ten times better, this book is amazing. The author breaks down four simple concepts and then shows you step-by-step examples to help you to apply those concepts. I’ve been looking for a book like this for years because I wanted to understand design better without needing a degree and I can see how the concepts could apply to other areas of visual design as well. This book also has font tips—wow—which have totally changed my typing life. Great book.

If you need to do graphic design and are not professionally trained, buy this book and read it. It was a fast, easy read with lots of before/after pictures to illustrate applying the principles she teaches. My own work has improved dramatically after doing this work. I was a competent amateur, but now what I'm producing looks better, and I have the words to explain how and why it is better. This book was worth every penny, and it's not particularly expensive to begin with.

This is an awesome book. The author clearly builds on proper design principles using outstanding examples of poorly and properly designed bulletins, personal stationary, postcards, resumes, etc. Although I have been using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign (formerly Pagemaker for years), I have a lot to learn about graphic design. Considerable emphasis is placed on the focus for the particular design followed by four easily understood design principles. The last one-half of the book concerns use of type.The book does not and should not teach specific brand-name computer applications.This is one great book. Seriously. I highly recommend the book to any beginner or low intermediate designer. Thank you very much.

Pretty good book for the novice designer and it will improve your design skills after applying the principles in the book. Easy to read, follow and understand, it also has good tips and tricks to make your design work look better and more professional. The chapter on color is really good and the chapter on fonts shows you there's more to a font than meets the eye. Highly recommended if you have no design background and need to do your own newsletters, flyers etc.

As someone prepping for a continuing ed design program, I wanted to get my hands on some basic knowledge of graphic design. This book is exactly what I needed, and covers the principles of design in short, sweet, and accurate detail. Coming from a more technical background I appreciate how succinct this book is and clearly lays out the point and purpose of what you need to accomplish.You won't come away as a design master from this book, but it is a wonderful intro to the field of graphic design principles and I would highly recommend it for newbies, or those simply interested in learning graphic design principles for their own personal projects.

I am a software developer, and I have always felt sort of oblivious to anything involving aesthetics. I've been fortunate to work with good designers, but I decided it was time to learn a bit for myself. I asked a designer colleague for a book recommendation, and she suggested this one.It was perfect for me. The book focuses on design as a means a effective communication rather than just a way to make pretty things, and that works a lot better for my brain. The examples are very clear, and the iterative improvements from one design to the next are so clear that even I can tell that they look better (and understand why). The writing is equally effective and easy to consume. It only took me 4-5 hours for my first pass through this book.After finishing the book tonight, I set out to improve my resume. 90 minutes later, I'm shocked with the results. I used to think my old one looked fine, but now I can see so many design flaws in it. The new version, well, I'm sure there's still plenty wrong with it, but looks better than anything I thought I'd ever create on my own.

Great to see an update of this book. The first edition really helped me learn and understand the principles of graphic design. If you work through this book, and apply the design principles to your work, you will definitely learn something about graphic design. Robin Williams also adds a lot of new material to the fourth edition, so you're not really buying the same book again. I'm looking forward to working though this edition as well.

About the Author

Tim Z. Hernandez was born and raised in California’s San Joaquin Valley. An award-winning poet, novelist, and performer, he is the recipient of the American Book Award for poetry, the Colorado Book Award for poetry, the Premio Aztlán Literary Prize for fiction, and the International Latino Book Award for historical fiction. His books and research have been featured in the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, CNN, Public Radio International, and National Public Radio. Hernandez holds a BA from Naropa University and an MFA from Bennington College. He continues to perform and speak across the United States and internationally, but he divides his time between Fresno and El Paso, where he is an assistant professor in the MFA Program in Creative Writing at the University of Texas at El Paso. It is a heart-wrenchingly beautiful book! It gives names to people long forgotten and raises the reader's sensitivity to the struggles of people, "illegal immigrants," desperate to find ways to help their families any way that they can. For sixty-five years there were no names for 28 graves in a Fresno, California cemetery. The research by the author to find and give names to each of those buried is a significant contribution of the story of the interwoven histories of both the United States and Mexico. It is particularly significant this year that we honor the struggle of people such as these who died so tragically, the deportees who crossed a border to provide for their families, and that we remember the service they have provided for the American marketplace through their labor. This is an important book, one that stays in the reader's mind long after the last page has been turned.

Tim Z. Hernandez' new non-fiction book "All They Will Call You" (Camino del Sol) is beautifully written and a heart felt labor of love. The title refers to a tragic crash of a DC-3 airplane in the Central Valley of California in January 1948, which was transporting at least 28 farm workers whose visas had expired or had no documentation at all. Also killed in the crash were the flight crew, stewardesses, and immigration officials. Mr. Hernandez researched and wrote this book over four years without formal funding because he felt the need to expand the human aspects of all who died and were mostly referred to solely as"deportees." This widely reported event eventually inspired Woody Guthrie to write a poem, later set to music by Pete Seeger and Martin Hoffman in a song titled "All They Will Call You is Deportee." Tim Z. Hernandez completes the story cycle by contacting surviving relatives of the farm workers and flight crew to provide them facts surrounding this tragedy which were unknown to them for almost seventy years. Mr. Hernandez has written a heart breaking book in a beautiful and caring style. This book is worthy of some major literature awards and is a "masterpiece " in my opinion.

This was purchased as a gift for my husband, a Woody Guthrie fan, but I read it first. It's well-researched & written in an easy-to-read style. It gives you an idea of who the individuals were who perished in the crash, and how they came to be on that airplane. It also documents the tireless efforts to create a memorial which finally assigns names to the victims.

This book seeks to memorialize a group of deportees who lost their lives in a terrible plane crash in California during the 1940s. The author writes very well about his subject, and the research he has done is extensive. At the same time, given the nature of what the author's research has turned up, the book reads like an extensive prose scrap book as the writer moves first into this aspect of the tragedy and than into that one before moving on to yet another.

Very good reading, I bought 3 of them and gave some away as gifts. a little sad but great story about the immigrant experience.

This is a compelling look at the stories and faces lost in the 1949 plane wreck documented in Woody Guthrie's poem (later turned into a song.) Touching and tragic.

The work, the skill, the patience, the sheer effort that went into this endeavor--not unlike the fine people it chronicles.

Have nbot finished it yet, but love the story so far. So interesting to learn the details and background of a song I have known for many years. So relevant in today's world.
