About the Author

Ben Hatke's first graphic novel was Zita the Spacegirl. He has published comics stories in the Flight series as well as Flight Explorer. In addition to writing and drawing comics, he also paints in the naturalist tradition and, occasionally, performs one-man fire shows. I wish I could share with you the loud squeal my 10-year-old made when she saw this book in her stack of Christmas presents. Zita the Spacegirl is by far one of her favorite heroines of all time.By the end of the day, she had read it cover to cover. Great book!

The Zita series is incredible, hands down. I've been rereading this to my kids for years and the copies are getting very worn down. Zita is a very human character, written like a person instead of a character. Her adventures are solid and pose interesting ethical questions in a way that allows you to have the conversation with younger kids.Aside from the book itself, Hatke's world-building is unbelievable. After finding the first easter eggs (and then reading the MIghty Jack series and seeing exactly how big those eggs are), you come to realize the Hatke is thinking about an entire universe, not just a book series here and there. Seeing his work in different worlds, and the connections between them, drove us to buy all of his books. My kids are still hunting for the last and coolest connection between Nobody Likes a Goblin and Mighty Jack and the Goblin King...I recommend this series (and author) over anything else my kids own (and that includes the all the standard basics). They're not old enough for Tolkein, but until they are, this is the next broadest thing out there.

Just a year ago I hadn't the faintest knowledge of Zita the Spacegirl or Ben Hatke. But I was looking around my public library and just happened to come upon them. That evening I got home I was an instant fan. Zita is a fun straightforward space-fantasy adventure that doesn't waste time to bring you to the next entertaining and imaginative adventure that waits around the corner.When book 2 ended on a cliff hanger I immediately looked up when the next would be released. Unfortunately that meant waiting. But know that the wait is over I finally get to read the "conclusion". Well..... It did not disappoint!! Return of Zita is brings back all the new characters we all know and love and along with some new ones as well. And not to mention that this book is CRAZZZY!!!!! The intensity stakes really were upped in this one. Every second there is a new obstacle and a great action scene. So yeah this book is super fast paced, and fun.SPOILERS!! LOOK OUT!! SPOILERS!! LOOK OUT!! SPOILERS!! LOOK OUT!! With that said I have to talk about the ending. So at the end Zita ends up back on earth. And about a year has passed since her adventures and all year long she has been trying to mentally contact her ship. One day Robot Randy comes crashing down with a note from Piper that says they need her, and then it ends. Ya' know cliffhanger endings, I love to hate them. Does that mean there is going to be more books? Are Zita's adventures really over? I guess only time will tell.But still Return of Zita is a great conclusion to a great series. If you are reading this Mr. Hatke I would just like to say, thank you. Thank you for exposing your child-like imagination to the world and I hope to see great things from you in the near future.

This is the third installment in what looks to be a continuing Zita the Spacegirl series and its the best one yet. The last two volumes are at or close to the top of the list of my kid's favorite books. This one was a "drop everything and read it right now" book. It more than lives up to its expectations. Starting off with Zita imprisoned on the Dungeon Planet the stakes keep climbing as Zita's position gets worse and worse. Thankfully for Zita, she has made many friends over the course of the series and they all come to her rescue. The artwork continues to be excellent, both in rendering the personalities of the many characters and portraying the many action scenes. It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who's read the first two books, this one is a must have.

If you love comics with adventure, fantasy and humor, you'll love this final installment just as much as the first two. We open this third installment to finds Zita locked in a dungeon by the evil Dungeon Lord. With utter courage and optimism, Zita is determined to escape. As she does so, she stops to help others in need--just as she always has.I love the way Zita is a daring, courageous, caring girl -- the best sort of role model for our kids. Fourth-grader Emily writes,"Zita is a fun character, and she really amuses readers. One thing I think is that the author made the characters very strong and alive... If I had to explain this book in three words those three words would be that this book is adventurous, lively, and awesome."

My 8 year old son and nearly 6 year old daughter love Zita and continue to reread all the books (including this one), so just because the protagonist is a girl does not mean it doesn't appeal to boys.I love how Zita's strength isn't that she's got magical powers or mad fighting sklls. She makes friends, does the right thing (even when it's hard or dangerous), and won't let anyone tell her who she can (or can't) save. She's a great role model for anyone (including me!). The art is clean and easy to view, consistent with the previous books.I look forward to reading more by Ben Hatke, and would love to see another Zita story if he happens to find another one inside himself.

I enjoy reading these to my four-year-old twin boys. They enjoy the strange aliens and great artwork.The premise is that Zita always stops to help people (creatures?) in need, and treats others with respect, even when she's expected to be a cruel heartless warrior. The bad guys keep locking her up, but then creatures she was nice to in the past come to her aid. Not intellectually heavy, but teaches good morals.read the first two before getting this third one in the trilogy.

First read this book when I was in business school and I continue to refer to it today. It is the best book out there for understanding the power dynamics within corporations. If you find corporate politics frustrating and painful, this book helps you look at internal situations scientifically and unemotionally and respond in kind.

Purchased as a required text for a class. I have a simple neutral opinion of the book.

Michaela was quite the precocious child. At the age of three she witnessed such horrific atrocities. I had to re-read her time to the orphanage in order to ascertain that she was three years old and not six or seven years old. There were quite a few passages that I had to re-read and remind myself that unfortunately this was not fiction and that a three year old child was exposed to such abuse and graphic violence. Fortunately, Michaela along with her best friend were placed with a loving family and provided both girls with the love, stability and support they needed, encouraging both to pursue their interests. This love would allow Michaela to dance through insecurities due to vitiligo and the asinine and racist remarks about minority dancers and their masculine and non graceful body types. I recommend this memoir along with Misty Copeland, Gabrielle Douglas, Simone Biles and Laurie Hernandez. I find each of their stories to be inspirational and something that everyone interested in the dance and gymnastics should read.

This book was such a joy to read from cover to cover. It was a page turner and fairly quick read without being too short, but left me wanting more, which is always a good thing for a book. It goes through Michaela's early childhood in Sierra Leon up to her current life as a professional ballerina; and all the tidbits in between culminate to paint such a vivid and inspiring picture. This is a story of strength, heartbreak, perseverance, and passion to achieve a lifelong dream in-spite of having the cards stacked against her from the very start.Although the book is largely about Michaela's journey, there is another star in the book, and that is her American mother. It is without a doubt that Michaela had the fortitude and determination to make things happen for herself, but the support of her parents (all four of them) afforded her many opportunities she likely would not otherwise have had. The brief details about her American mother make me want to know so much more about this remarkable woman, I hope she writes her own memoir as I would love to read it. I won't spoil anything for you readers, but I will just say the quiet impact this woman has had on the lives of her children and in turn, humanity, is breathtakingly admirable.It is true that there is a fair amount of ballet jargon in some of the book that might be over the heads of people not in the dance world, but there is so much more to her story than that and it shouldn't detract from a larger, non-dance enthusiast readership (it may even serve to inspire readers to learn more about the art of ballet). The book is first and foremost a memoir and ballet is an important backdrop to the overall story of overcoming the odds to achieve your dreams. I think this book will appeal to anyone who likes to read about any one or several of the following: the unwavering human spirit, feminism/gender equality, breaking racial barriers, family (the one you're born in and the family you choose), adoption, grief and loss, challenging fears, ballet, bridging cultural gaps, early childhood trauma, paving new paths, friendship, what it takes to succeed, and at the heart of it all...love.

The most beautiful of stories. A loving compassionate family solves their grief over losing sons by adopting 2 young girls from Sierra Leone Orphanage. I think the mother, Elaine DePrince, herself just as fascinating a story as Michaela - how she copes with all the problems that present themselves - helping these children learn to speak English, bringing them back to health, guiding them gently into the ways of life in a completely strange society and atmosphere the girls have never seen before, how she helps them deal with the fears and the tragedies of their past and overcome them. Michaela has become a very successful and exquisite Ballerina in addition to becoming a well-balanced joyful and beautiful young lady in every way - inside and out. This is a success story that has only barely begun. And the book so well done once I picked up it is one I just couldn't put down until finished.

I first heard about this book when I saw a short documentary that was circulating online. Then, I saw a documentary called "First Position" and had wanted to read this. I'm so glad I did. The descriptions of Michaela's life in Sierra Leone are described in such a way as to provide the reader with the seriousness of what she experienced without being too graphic for younger readers to handle. It's quite fascinating to have a first-hand perspective on a child's life in Africa, how she ended up in America, and how she acheived her dream of becoming a professional Ballerina through the support of her adoptive family. This is an appropriate book for all ages and would be a great book for middle schoolers to read for class. The photographs at the end of the book are a wonderful touch and help to establish a connection with Michaela and her family. "Taking Flight" is a humbling read that will stick with the reader.

I found this book to be totally engrossing. I am a former choreographer and teacher and have seen Michaela dance on Dancing With The Stars and loved seeing her in the film First Position. Her dramatic story touched my heart the first time I heard it. Clearly she is a prodigy who was given an opportunity to follow her dream and become the person and artist she was meant to be. This book gave me a chance to get to know her story better and to get acquainted with her remarkable adoptive parents. To say I am impressed would be an understatement. Her parents are an inspiration to all of us, and Michaela's courage, hard work, and innate artistry are an example of what can be achieved when a gifted child is given the opportunity to let her spirit truly Take Flight. A Standing Ovation from this reader for Michaela and the wonderful dePrince family!

Such a fun new to me series! I need to start with the first book and read about all of these friends who made their billionaire bride pact. But it was written well enough as a stand alone in case you want to read them out of order like I did. Can I just say that I love the premise of this series? 12 friends make a pact to marry a billionaire while at girl's camp. If they don't fulfill the pact then they have to sing some corny camp song at their wedding. So not too dire of a consequence if they fail to marry someone super wealthy but I think it's a song that definitely gives them enough motivation to try to fulfill the pact. *.*I said earlier that I didn't start with book one, which was fine, but I almost wish that I had. That being said I really want to go back and read through all the stories of these twelve friends. I really like the titles too, The Resilient One, The Feisty One, etc. It makes me laugh thinking of the twelve friends and their different personalities. I think the title fit perfect for this story.Without giving away too much of the storyline other than the synopsis blurb you've read, Alyssa is our female MC and Beckham, or Beck, is our male MC. There is a little history connected to these two that isn't the happiest or what it appears to be. Of course there is always a story behind an event and we need this event to create our angst for the story, or at least part of the angst. Alyssa brings the majority of the angst to our story due to her background. Ok, as far as family members for both MCs go, Beck's sisters/brother in laws are awesome, Alyssa's dad is major scumbag/slime ball and Alyssa's grandma is just the best ever(I think you'll get a chuckle from her antics and phrases)! There are plenty of secondary characters but the only one who really makes a strong appearance is Grandma Ellie, the other characters just pipe in more as memories than anything.Both Alyssa and Beck have had some ups and downs in their lives. Beck more due to the loss of his parents. Alyssa all due to her father's scheming and power plays. So what does Alyssa do? She disappears, hones a talent and creates a new life for herself. She is hiding out on Maui and enjoying her freedom, but her freedom hasn't helped her heal from her scars and trust issues.Beck was a former NHL player who now runs the family business as well as a major non-profit organization helping kids. He is headed to Maui to track down the amazing photographer A.A. to convince him to join his team for helping these kids all over the world. What Beck doesn't expect is to run into the beautiful Alyssa. Beck is well built and was an NHL player so yeah he's got himself some muscles and a very toned body that all women want right? Wrong...Alyssa won't even look at him and continues to avoid it. Beck can't figure out why.There are many factors playing into why Alyssa is avoiding Beck. Can he figure out a way to break down her walls and show her that he can be trusted? Or does Grandma Ellie need to step in and save the day? Or will Alyssa see Beck's goodness, or will she find a flaw that he is hiding just to get close to her?These two characters will have to break down the walls of mistrust if they want to stand a chance at possibly making a go of their relationship. There is chemistry and a lot of sparks flying with these two but sometimes the past won't allow someone to trust easy. Will Alyssa keep her pact or will she be singing the awfully embarrassing song? You'll have to read to find out.As far as content in this story, there are several kisses. There is a flashback for attempted rape and some talk about her father trying to sell her off but none of it is graphic. A few fights and an almost shark attack. Overall I would say it is a clean read and would recommend for more mature readers due to her father's antics.Happy Reading!!!

She had had enough of rich men when she was at home and her Father kept pushing them on her. Now that she was on her own, she would decide who she met and when and why.Beckham Taylor, a billionaire bachelor, had come to Hawaii to meet a photographer who went by his initials, AA. He wanted to persuade him to accompany Beck abroad to take pictures of children in need. He hoped to use the pictures to generate money for Jordan’s Buds, a charity Beck had created in memory of his little brother, Jordan. First, however, he was taking some time off to relax and recharge. He was staying at an inexpensive Bed and Breakfast off the circuit of the rich. Here he meets Alyssa and later, her grandmother, and the beginnings of a friendship begins.How can Alyssa tell Beck that she was the one who took pictures of him and his sister at their parents’ funeral which the tabloids changed and turned it into a fight between Beck and his sisters over his being executor of their estate? She knows how much he dislikes the paparazzi.

Oh, for a grandmother like Grannie Ellie! What a hoot. I really enjoyed this book and had trouble putting it down before I had a chance to finish it. I have read three stories in this series and have liked them all. This one included. Even though she is emotionally scarred and wary due to her father’s past treatment of her and the assault attempts by his cronies, Alyssa has a heart of gold. When she meets multi-millionaire philanthropist Beck, she is immediately drawn to this gorgeous man, who is surprisingly down-to-earth. She has a problem trusting men, especially wealthy men, and it is up to Beck to prove that not all men are scum.There are a fair amount of misunderstanding and miscommunications due to others’ schemes, so these two will need to fight a bit harder than the norm to achieve their happy ending. This is a nice, clean read

I liked the overall story well enough, even if as other reviewers have noted, the twists are a bit over the top. However, the heroine is depicted as a woman with a physical disability, specifically, a birth defect that resulted in a deformed foot. The description specifies at one point that she was born missing her fourth and fifth toes and about a third of her foot, plus she has to wear an orthotic insert with her shoe. Looking at the cover, am I supposed to believe those are her feet? I'm assuming she would be the one wearing the high heeled shoes that expose most of her feet, but based on the description of her foot with the birth defect, that picture doesn't appear to be compatible with the description.Furthermore, the hero of the book also uses the word "lame" as a pejorative. Unfortunately, this seems to be a relatively regular occurrence in fiction that is otherwise classified as "clean", but for people who are aware of ableist language, this could come across as potentially insensitive. Even though it occurred before the hero was aware of the heroine's disability, the reader is already aware of it and thus it can be interpreted to be an especially poor word choice in the context of the story.

I should have read the one review before purchasing this product. I agree with the first review, to many holes to store seeds that are gathered on your own. I already have my seeds in zip lack snack bags and was looking for a better way to organize and store them. I still have to put them in something to insert into the envelopes in this binder, thus making the binder thicker than it should be. In addition, there is not any way to add additional seed envelopes when you fill these up. I will probably return this and purchase something different.i found something called the Master Gardener's Seed Organizer which looks more like what I need. It is more expensive, bit I think it will work much better than this little binder

Pros: Super cute style wise, the minimal and basic gardening info pages are nice.Cons: This seed keeper is not very large. My book is bursting at the seams with less than a dozen half empty packs of seeds! Also, the envelopes that hold the seeds are made of ultra thin and flimsy paper, so they will not actually hold anything on their own. I have little plastic baggies (or if the original seed packing is small enough) that I've ended up stapling onto each section.I'm going to try to see if this seed keeper will work for me through spring just because it's so cute!

Not a practical product for someone who has more than 10 seed packets to organize. Not what was expected. Definately not worth the money. Binder is about half the size of a 'normal' binder. Ony 10 regular sized sleeves and 10 large sleeves. Sleeves are not transparent, so you still have to pull out the packet to read information on the back of the packet. Sleeve also appear to easily tear. There are places to write harvesting notes, but only for four plantings. I would have been better off buying a regular binder and platic photo sleves. If you have a very small garden with a few varieties, this may be perfect for you--not for me.

I guess I didn’t pay as much attention to the ‘inserts’ as I should have before purchase. I was looking for more of an organizer for ‘collected’ seeds in the wild; slots for storing, when, where, what happened. These inserts are for pre packaged seed packets from the store. It was cute and I did gift to someone other than my wild-gardener, but certainly not practical for a botanist.

i really like the little attached seed holder sleeves, i know a previous reviewer mentioned the 'windows' aren't closed, but if you really needed it closed, that could be solved easily with some clear packaging tape on the inside and out. I do wish there was more space in the back for keeping notes however. was a gift for my mom and she was pleased with it so i'm not complaining.

I should have read the reviews. There is very little room for seeds and the seed envelopes have holes in the middle, so they are only good if you have saved your seed packets. This is terrible if you save your own seeds.

Bought this for my mother in law who keeps her seeds from year to year and come gardening season has them all over the place. She LOVES this book - it has brought order and ease to her gardening world.

i thought it would have something to keep loose seeds or have more to it. just holds your current seed packets but doesnt actually fill a whole page. Not worth it
