Writing this book was a fascinating journey in coming up with projects that were innovative enough to be something you'd want to add to your homestead as well as straightforward for you to build. I learned with my several flocks of poultry that if my coop is easy to access, I'll do a better job of caring for my birds. I also tried hard to keep things simple--no exotic materials and nothing that is crazy hard to build. You should be able to find all your building supplies at your local home center. It is my hope that the steps and plans provided will be enough guide anyone who is moderately handy.

was expecting 40 projects but the book counts multiple chicken coops and other projects as different so you really only get about 20

These seem to be a compilation of old books that my grandfather use to have back in the 30's. That is not a bad thing and I think a lot of the things discussed in this book should be taught in schools as there is nothing more important in life than knowing how to grow your own food. Knowing how to eat it is a good thing to learn as well...a lot of good information and ideas.

Great projects! I thought it would be more "take these nails and wood and build something" but it's a bit more modern than that. For example, the windmill project requires buying a windmill kit and not how to build a windmill (although there's a lot to erecting a windmill so it's still helpful). Good companion to The Backyard Homesteader.

Very basic guide, I was looking for something a bit more technical and in depth. The solar and wind section was very minimal and left a lot to be explained.

Only one real chicken coop - quite a bit info on fences, not exactly what I was looking form but there are a few gems in here.

Loved this book so much that I took it to the local hardware store but left it in a cart. When I realized it, I ordered another.I'm mildly handy with tools and can fill in any gaps this book creates, but having these step by step pictures gives me the confidence I need to build the backyard of my wife's dreams

Full of excellent projects that I'll actually use! I live in the suburbs of Minnesota and garden in my front yard- this book has already provided lots of inspiration to get me through the cold winter months as I prep for my spring planting!

I love this book. It has some fantastic ideas I hadn't thought of before... it gave us exactly what we needed when figuring out how to have water lines brought to animals and not having them freeze during the winter. Can't wait to put it to use. Lots of great things in this book and pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

My kids love Blaze so they naturally love this book. The pages are thick and durable and the pictures in the book are colorful and bright. I wish they had used better examples to illustrate numbers 1 & 4 so that is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5.

Ok book. My 3 year old LOVES Blaze and I thought this would be a good way to teach numbers. While the book is OK, the items to count are a little unclear and other items (such as a racetrack) dominate the pages. Would recommend, but wish it was more simplistic and geared to learning.

My 3 year loves blaze and was a happy camper he had a book to "read" while his siblings read their own. Book is cardboard and will withstand his abuse as well as any other cardboard books would.

I love this book for my one year old son. I can't wait to give it to him on Christmas. He's going to be so excited he's a REAL TRUE Blaze fan he gets super excited.

This was okay. My sons who love Blaze enjoyed this very much. I personally didn't like that it seemed as though the items for counting where often not very clear.

There really isn't much to this book. I am frustrated with Amazon Prime that I am forced to review each book. I am going to look for another site.

In the late 1980s, I attended a BYU Education Week class taught by a man I'd never heard of, David Ridges. He was the best teacher I had ever heard. So I continued attending Ed Week, making sure his classes were my top priority. Not only does he know how to explain the scriptures, he makes it so interesting that I could listen to him all day. I kept wishing he would write books. So when he started writing his commentaries, I purchased them all. My husband and I use Ridges' books every day as we study the scriptures. Our understanding has increased exponentially. The only thing I wish he had done differently is in regard to the layout. When he inserts long quotations from other bodies of scriptures (such as the Old Testament), I wish they were in a different color, or inset in a box, so as not to interrupt the flow of the main text. Otherwise, this is a fantastic study aid. Highly recommended.

I have probably, I think all of his books . I have read them numerous times. I have loaned them out now... as now I have put them all on my tablet.They have taught me more than any other book. That being said.... What more can I say. Read and study with David Ridges.

This book helped to make the Book of Mormon so much more understandable helping to understand the timeline, places things happened and which people's are which when there were conversions and name changes etc. Even thinking through how it relates to our day and why some of the records relate to us and how to learn from them. I absolutely love this series by David J. Ridges. It has made my Book of Mormon study complete. Very knowledgeable, very insightful, I'm amazed at how much more I have learned and retained while using this book as opposed to reading the Book of Mormon by itself. I love that it has the actual Scriptures and the study guide in the same book so you don't have to have two books open side-by-side. I can't wait to own the entire series for all of the standard works. I have purchased several of these for gifts for other people.

I thought I was going through receive a copy of the book pictures. When it arrived. It was the older version. Not bad, but not the expectation that was set when I submitted my purchase. I plan to put the entire set on a spiral bind to make the volumes easier to use for study.

There is so much information that I never knew while reading the Book of Mormon. I highly recommend this to everyone, especially those who want to understand the Book of Mormon better than what they want to find on the surface. Though it doesn't replace diligent prayer, studying, and fasting, you will find many answers you are looking for in this book. My wife is a convert to the church, so using this book as well as the others (there are 3 total for the Book of Mormon) has blessed her understanding considerably.

I found these reference books to be extremely helpful in studying the Book of Mormon and not just reading it. They are comprehensive, well researched, and gives readers insight into the lives and events of ancient times and the people who inhabited the American Continent, and of course the ancient Prophets of God who were called of God to prophesy, to teach, to warn them to live the commandments and be obedient to them. David Ridges' adds a dimension of knowledge and light for me that I more fully understand. I would recommend using all his reference books for the other books of the Bible as well.

I was given wise advise when I started teaching Seminary to read this series of books to help in the classroom. My husband and I liked them so much that we read them together as well. We have learned a lot as well.

I have bought and read A LOT of books in my life. Never have I read anything with so many typos, grammatical errors and sentences that just don't make any sense. One example of this is the following sentence: "if you and Mom and your looking to live a little and get a tattoo". That's the whole sentence. WTF?!?!?! Besides the more than one hundred mistakes you'll encounter in the "writing", the content is absolutely generic and superficial. You'll find much better tips in any of those videos and tutorials one comes across on YouTube. Do yourself a favor and get a decent book or buy a DVD collection with real tutorials. And for the writer, please at least revise your writing before publishing. Shame on amazon for publishing something like this- or letting it be sold here.

This was a joke and a rip off! Point blank you cheated me out of my money with this deceitful product description. As the other 1 star comment said what I got was not the pictured item. I received a 32pg booklet/insert. IT IS ABSOLUTELY NOT WHAT IS PICTURED HERE!!! This pamphlet at most is hardly comprehensive as stated above. The same picture above is printed on the cover of this leaflet in a very blurred manner. Then again picture on on the front cover. The thickness alone in the pictured item above shows clearly a larger book that yes may be comprehensive. The item I received is so small it could possibly be an insert to the above pictured item.

Do Not Buy This Book! it is full of very incorrect and harmful information. It is not a complete book, each chapter is a page long with no info. DO NOT BUY. For example: it says to hold the outlining machine at a 45 deg. or steeper angle, and dilute colors with witch hazel. very incomplete.

It was misleading and nothing like I expected if I could give it no stars,I would. It had a minimum if information in it. I was very disappointed for the price I paid. If I wanted a brochure I could just get that for free from any religious missionary passing by.

This book is a good overall look at all of the Oak Island searchers and what they did and found. It's a good companion for watching the TV show. I don't agree with some of the author's theories, but there are a lot of theories out there as seen on the TV show. The maps and pictures are also helpful in understanding what's going on there.

Great history/reference. Lots of detail, seems very well researched. Enhances enjoyment of “oak Island TV series! In fact I was about to give up on series, but reading the book has recaptured me a while longer.

Great book, however beginning is a lot of stuff you may already know from watching the tv show. After about 40 pages is gets more indepth about previous searchers and very informative. Would recommend for anyone that is a fan of the tv show.

He loves the book because it gives him so much more info on the history of the treasure and the many times they have tried to find it. I highly recommend it to someone who is watching this on TV and is fascinated by the story.

I have followed TV show, The Curse of Oak Island since it's inception. The Secret Treasure of Oak Island gives historical insight to the time and events leading involving this mysterious Canadian island. It provides many questions, all plausible, so if you're into the show, you'll like the book. Easy reading, fast paced and fun to read. Grade A

A really well written book that answers some of the questions as a viewer of the show I had. I highly recommend for anyone who is into the TV series who wants a more in-depth analysis. Great read!

This is THE book to get when considering responsive design. The book is divided into clear step-by-step sections to show you what is needed along with code examples online if you want to see it in action. There is so much information packed in each chapter, I typically read each chapter at least twice. It is very clearly written with images to help solidify the concepts. In each chapter there is a two page interview with someone in the field and that person talks about their experience. These were always interesting and added to the understanding of what it's like in the "real" world. I found the side note recommendations for other books, code, and websites very helpful. They allow the book to "extend" in whatever ways you need it to.HIghly recommend.

Excellent book covering more aspects of the responsive design problem than most other books. This includes IE6, 7, and 8 compatibility; mobile-first design, managing fixed-width assets (e.g. AdSense sidebar block images), using em's over %'s in font-size because of mobile zooming considerations, selectively serving reduced sized images to mobile, JavaScript to reduce paragraph sections (on desktop) to a clickable headings (on mobile), and one navigational solution for mobile (clickable drop-down menu). It also covers several tool options for evaluating your responsive implementation and testing it online with mobile emulators.What this book doesn't cover is how JavaScript frameworks (e.g. jQuery) can be used for responsive design, or how to make a Facebook plugin responsive, but this maybe a different book about JavaScript/PHP solutions for responsive design.

I would have liked to see more coding examples and less fluff. There seems to be an over abundance of images and nonsensical ramblings than meaningful content. Also, the responsive design domain has come quite a ways since this book was written so it may behoove you to just walk through a tutorial on Bootstrap or Foundation unless you plan on writing your own responsive framework.

I have a beginner to intermediate level knowledge of HTML and CSS. This book provides great material into the importance of responsive design but lacks its intended purpose of teaching how to implement it. The examples are quickly discussed and vague at best, particularly for a beginner/intermediate.

If you buy only two books on Responsive Design, this should be one of them. (The other would be Ethan Marcotte's "Responsive Web Design".) This book is maybe a tad less code-heavy than the Marcotte book, and provides more and better illustrations. But it does show you CSS code when called for.

This is a color book with a lot of interesting ideas that goes well beyond viewports and media queries. I also like the real world opinionated interviews scattered through the text with full time web designers.Hopefully, we will see another web book from this author in the future.

I liked the explanations and examples. Using this book I was able to put responsive design techniques to work on my current project right away. There is good depth to the explanations so I learned the "why" and the "when" and not just the "how".

I buy this book while researching for responsive design. This book helps me understand better how to make a website responsive and how to approach. He covers the important steps when you want to make a responsive website, media queries, images, fonts, mobile first, performance...The book is well written and was I pleasure to read.

If you're interested in this, you are probably a political science or international relations student, which is a shame because very few general readers would pick this up, and it's those who need it the most, this really deserves to be a best-seller. I majored in biochemistry and am an indie game developer, never took a single class in political science, but on a friend's recommendation who was majoring in that I read this book, and I've re-read it several times over the years, and it's become one of my favorite books (certainly in my top 10 of nonfiction).Basically, this book presents an overarching theory of why wars exist, one that is precise enough to allow even uninformed readers to make predictable, and historically accurate, and precise predictions about when a country will go to war (and why). Most people believe wars to happen for one of several reasons -- "human nature" (because humans just like fighting and are inherently violent or stupid or something), or perhaps the war over religion and ideology, or perhaps over resources. I'd guess that almost everyone believes war happens for one of those reasons.This book dispels that notion very cleanly and completely. After you read it, you'll realize that nations go to war simply because they are afraid. They know that if they lose a war against a greater power, their nation is done for -- it will become occupied, or a puppet state, of a greater power, and lose whatever power they had. Nations do not want that to happen, they are terrified of being dominated by greater nations. And this is a systematic thing, no individual might consciously decide on this, but this is how all nations do seem to work: they are afraid of being conquered, so they go to war to make sure they are the one who conquer, not the one being conquered. This central notion that fear of being conquered by another nation, and not anything else, drives almost all war is the main thesis of the book, and it's argued for very convincingly, with a lot of historical examples.So, the first way a country can be certain it's not going to be conquered by its neighbors is to become the strongest power in its major landmass -- the regional hegemon. Most nations in a position to do so will try to gain regional power -- that is what China is doing in asia, that's what the US did the Americas, and that's what various european countries (e.g. England, France, the Dutch, the Germans, the Russians) have attempted to do for europe, and so on.By this thesis, it may seem counter-intuitive, but according to this idea, the reason Germany went to war was not because they were nationalistic or inherently violent, or because of the ideological differences between fascism, capitalism, and communism, or because wanted to purify Europe of undesirable races, or even that they were angry over the conditions imposed on them after WW1 (though that's part of it), but simply because Germany feared being conquered and wanted to become the most powerful nation in Europe to make sure they would survive.This is a *very* different understanding of war than most people have, I want to emphasize that again. And it sounds strange at first, but this book will probably convince you of it (as evidence, Germany in WW1 had a very different ideology, but the conditions were somewhat similar, and they still went to war, for the same reason they did go to war in WW2. Sometimes WW1 is blamed on entangling alliances or the assassination of an archduke, but, in reality, according to this theory, Germany went to war in WW1 for the exact same reason they want to war in WW2, because they saw an opportunity to become local hegemon of Europe, and took that opportunity).If you still aren't convinced, that isn't of course the job of this review, it's the job of the book; the number of examples used in the book far exceed would I could bring up here. And the author's writing is much better than mine in any case. I'm just trying to explain why I like the book: because it gives you a different opinion of war than the usual one, and does so very convincingly, through factual argument, and explains it in a simple to understand way (you don't need to have even taken a political science course to follow along with the argument).

The Tragedy of Great Power Politics is an accessible history of great power behavior since the 18th century. John Mearsheimer is a professor at the University of Chicago. Mearsheimer believes that once countries become economically strong they seek to dominate their region militarily. They “are always searching for opportunities to gain power over their rivals, with hegemony as their final goal.” He calls this “offensive realism.” In the final chapter, he discusses the rise of China and predicts that it will attempt to dominate Asia. He believes that this will lead to conflict with the US.To prove his theory, Mearsheimer examines the behavior of five countries over the last 200 years: Japan (1868-1945), Germany (1862-1945), Soviet Union (1917-1991), Britain (1792-1945), and the U.S. (1800-1990). Japan and the Soviet Union provide strong support for the theory. Before WW2 Japan was imperialistic and invaded Korea, China, and the Soviet Union. Its attempts to become an Asian hegemon inevitably led to its clash with the U.S. Russia has always been an imperialistic power and over the centuries expanded its empire from Europe to the Pacific coast. During the Soviet era, it grabbed Eastern Europe.Germany is an example of how offensive realism can lead to disaster. After reunification in 1871, Germany started to flex its muscles and frighten its neighbors. By 1900 it had overtaken Britain to become Europe's largest economy. Russia, France, and Britain initially formed a defensive alliance, but this did not deter Germany, it just became more paranoid. Mearsheimer argues that it was inevitable that a powerful Germany would try to dominate Europe. However, historians like Margaret MacMillan believe that war could have been avoided had Bismarck still been around. Unfortunately for Germany, Japan, and the Soviet Union, they were not allowed to dominate for long. They became victims of their own ambition and this seems to be the main weakness of offensive realism as a survival strategy.Britain is not a good fit for Mearsheimer's theory. It was never interested in dominating Europe. It controlled 59% of global wealth in 1860 but it never tried to conquer Europe. Mearsheimer claims that the English Channel made invasion too difficult. However, Britain's traditional strategy was to contain potential threats by manipulating either Germany or France. This did not stop Britain aggressively grabbing territory in parts of the world where it faced little or no opposition.Mearsheimer claims that Britain was too weak to stop the U.S. taking over its Caribbean colonies in the 19th century. Apparently, the U.S. resisted the temptation to invade because the British colonies kept slaves. He does not seem aware that Britain ended slavery long before the U.S. The main reason the US did not attack was Britain's navy. For much of the 19th century, the U.S. lacked the military strength to prevent European intervention in the New World. But since European meddling threatened British as well as American interests, the Monroe Doctrine was enforced by the Royal Navy. At the end of the 19th century, America could deploy two battleships to Britain’s forty-four.Mearsheimer describes the U.S. as the "poster child for offensive realism." Mearsheimer sets out a narrative to explain how American foreign policy developed over the centuries. He argues that it first dominated the Western Hemisphere before extending its reach to Asia and Europe. The invasion of Canada in 1812 and the Monroe Doctrine were part of a plan to dominate the Americas. Once that was achieved the U.S. stopped Japan and Germany dominating Asia and Europe in the 20th century. The U.S. continued to view the British Empire as a threat and Roosevelt set about dismantling it during WW2. Once WW2 was won, the Soviet Union became America’s new adversary and it maintained forces in Europe to check Soviet expansion, but also to prevent the Europeans from fighting each other.Mearsheimer argues that the U.S. is often in denial about its behavior and Americans are taught that the U.S. is altruistic and a force for good in the world. Mearsheimer states that “idealist rhetoric provided a proper mask for the brutal policies that underpinned the tremendous growth of American power.” In 1991 the U.S. became the world's only super-power and according to Mearsheimer, its main foreign policy objective was to prevent the re-emergence of a new rival. Following the difficult wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the U.S. is less certain of its global role. Mearsheimer claims that America's foreign policy elite is still largely made up of offensive realists, but these days they prefer to keep their views under wraps.Mearsheimer believes that the rise of China brings a new set of problems. America is facing its first serious economic competitor since it overtook Britain in the 19th century. He predicts that China will pose a threat to U.S. dominance in Asia. Mearsheimer is worried that if nationalists in China continue to pursue a policy of "Asia for the Asians" this will make future conflict inevitable.I found the book an enjoyable read but Mearsheimer has a surprisingly superficial grasp of world history. However, he does provide a helpful explanation of American foreign policy over the past 200 years. It is clear that the world will always be a dangerous place and America will continue to attract rivals trying to knock it off its pedestal.
