We are most likely going to be visiting the state of Ohio this summer so I thought this would be an appropriate book to purchase before our trip. We like to see the unusual sites along the way. We have been very happy with these "weird' books. They are interesting and enjoyable. This book appears to be just as interesting. We have gotten to see some very unusual things by having these books. I hate to miss something that we could have seen if we had only known about it. I recommend all of these books for people who like to take the less traveled roads to get where they are going. You never know what you might miss. These books are also great for late night reading. You don't have to read the entire book and it is fun to skip around in these weird books. I love them. I do recommend them for pleasure reading as well as for travel information.
This hardcover book gives a great insight into the oddities of the Buckeye State. It is categorized by areas of interest rather than geographical areas. If you're interested in ghost sightings, there's an entire chapter with locations so you don't have to search through the whole book. It's quite a light hearted read with historical facts and humorous comments. There are included photos with most attractions which can give you some idea if it's worth a stop. We live in western Pennsylvania and thought it would be a fun reference to make some days trip to the Ohio area. Ohio Curiosities: Quirky Characters, Roadside Oddities & Other Offbeat Stuff does provide more attractions and is organized by geographical area. It is also a softcover book and much lighter to take on the road.
As a resident of Ohio, I've enjoyed reading this book and letting it inspire Sunday afternoon or weekend drives to see if we can find some "Weird Ohio" ourselves. My only complaint is that it's not organized by city or county and requires some very local knowledge to find a site mentioned in the book. That may have been intentional as some of these places might not want folks tramping about looking for legends. All in all, it's a fun read, a good value on Amazon, and inspires us to get out and see our state.
The book has neat stuff in it but it would be so much better if it was organized by sections of the state instead of being all over the place. I would have rated it higher if it was organized by location
I have not been able to put this book down for very long. I just got the book on Monday and I have read 238 of the 277 pages of the book. I planned to have the book as a reference for places to travel in Ohio. There is definitely some very interesting information in the book. I especially enjoyed reading about strange phantom animal sightings, interesting art gardens, serial killers who went to Ohio State, and haunted buildings, roads and bridges. This is truly a book that will have you glued to the pages. I read on and off through the last couple days and woke up each morning wanting to read more. It will be finished this evening. I will certainly check out some of the places mentioned. This is a great buy.
Mom loved it. great gift idea
