If you're truly interested in Hong Kong, this is a wonderful book that brings Hong Kong to life. I've read many books on Hong Kong that fail to capture the true essence of the city. Ingham captures the natural beauty and dynamic energy of this amazing city while also exposing Hong Kong's warts. Ingham goes through each region of Hong Kong, area by area, detailing the lifestyle, history, and notable tourist attractions of each area. I truly enjoyed this book but it could definitely have benefited from more pictures and detailed maps. Ingham only offers a broad map of Hong Kong at the beginning of the book that I continually had to flip back to. The quality of writing was excellent but the book could have been better.
Ingham gives a street-level walkaround, always pointing out the movie scenes, books, or historic legends associated with each place. The tour is very verbal, so it's strong on stories but weak on maps or pictures. If you've been there and can picture it, it's great.
